Special Stainless Steel 254SMO (UNS S31254 / 1.4547) plates and sheets are heavily utilized in seawater handling systems, offshore oil & gas platforms, flue gas desulfurization (FGD) scrubbers, and pulp bleaching equipment. With 6% molybdenum and 0.20% nitrogen additions, 254SMO delivers significantly higher resistance to local corrosion than conventional 316L or 317L stainless steels while maintaining high impact strength and ductility.
